How Can Cooperation Strengthen Food Security?

Second webinar of the series EU / MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement

Tuesday 4th October: 14:00 to 15:00 CEST (13:00 to 14:00 London)

About this webinar

Food security is a sensitive topic since MERCOSUR is one of the biggest food exporters in the world. Accordingly, this has created some internal conflicts within the EU (as discussed in webinar #1) such as that it has been argued that, for example, MERCOSUR may not comply with sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) regulations, which could lower cost of food production as well as put EU consumers at risk.

However, the aim of the agreement also is to ensure food security and protect public health, as they both play a central role in the development and well- being of populations, especially in the most vulnerable settings. Join our webinar to find out how can the EU-MERCOSUR cooperation strengthen food security on both continents.

Speakers include:

  • Max Primorac, Director, Douglas and Sarah Allison Center for Foreign Policy Studies
  • Marcelo Regúnaga, Professor, University of Buenos Aires, Former Secretary of Agriculture, Argentina

Other speakers will be announced soon.
